WWE 12: Match Types

Climb into the ring and pin your opponent to the canvas in the action packed and exciting WWE ’12. The large variety of matches available will keep you jumping from the ropes and dropping elbows as you march forward toward victory. This guide will review the individual matches and prepare you for battle accordingly. Each match type is different so you need some coaching to learn and understand the rules.

The lovely WWE Divas are not allowed in all matches but can be involved in most of them. The rules state that there is no man on woman wrestling action. This means if you start a simple one on one match with a diva, the opponent must also be a diva. In the case of a mixed tag team match, each team will consist of one male wrestler and one diva.

Normal Match

• 1 vs. 1 or 2 vs. 2 head to head, 2 vs. 2 mixed team, Triple Threat match, Fatal 4 way, 6 man match or Handicap.
• Divas are allowed except in the 6 man format.
• No really special tricks and in a standard match setting. Certain settings can be customized by using the Match Creator. Disqualification terms and ring count outs, etc. can be adjusted as you desire. In the mixed tag mode, the two participants in the ring must be of the same gender. If one team tags in a member of the opposite sex, the other team must also.

Battle Royal

• Fatal 4-way and 6 man modes only.
• The divas can wrestle in the Fatal 4 way matches but they are not allowed in the 6 man matches.
• The goal is to throw your opponent over the top rope and down to the floor. All 6 participants start the match inside the ring which is sometimes called the squared circle. Use an Irish Whip maneuver to throw your foe into the ropes or into the corner. As you approach him, a mini game within the game appears whereupon you use your skills to toss him over the rope to ringside.

Championship Scramble

• The lovely divas are allowed.
• In this match a countdown timer is utilized. Total match time can be set to 5, 10 or twenty minutes. The first wrestler to win a match by pin or submission is declared interim champion. That winner will start another match and this format continues until the timer reaches zero. Whoever is interim champion at the moment time expires, becomes the actual champion.

Elimination Chamber

• No divas allowed, 6 man match mode only.
• Two combatants start the match in a ring enclosed with steel cage and glass chambers. About every minute or so, another man enters the chamber. The wrestler’s battle until there is just one man left standing. You can choose tag team mode or every man for himself.

Extreme Rules

• 1 vs. 1, 2 vs. 2, Triple Threat, Fatal 4-way.
• Divas are welcome to battle.
• An extreme battle with no disqualifications. Weapons are in play and are hidden underneath the ring. The stipulation however, is that a pin or submission can only be accomplished inside the ring itself. You get to play with fire in this match. Set a table or a two by four on fire for added action.

Free Brawl

• 1 vs. 1, 2 vs. 2, 1 vs. 2, 1 vs. 3 and divas can rumble.
• This mode takes place backstage. Any item you find lying around becomes a weapon. The whole backstage area is fair game. Last one standing is the winner.

Handicap Match

• 1 vs. 2, 1 vs. 3, 2 vs. 3, 1 vs. 3 Gauntlet Style.
• Divas are allowed.
• Handicap matches pit one person or team against another team that has more wrestlers allowing for a large advantage…or is it? Standard tag team rules apply or all combatants can be in the ring at the same time. In Gauntlet mode, one wrestler battles the others one at a time instead of all at once.

Hell in a Cell

• 1 vs. 1, 2 vs. 2, Triple Threat, Fatal 4-way, 6 man which is also known as Armageddon Hell in a Cell.
• Divas can join in except in the Armageddon mode.
• Everything goes in this one. No disqualifications or count outs but pins and submissions must be inside the ring. Charge up your momentum in an attempt to exit the cell. Put your finishing move on an opponent which will send the poor soul through a cell wall. At that point you should be able to walk out of the cell or even climb to the top of the cell to escape victoriously. Be careful as you may be followed to the top for a battle high above the ring.

Inferno Match

• 1 vs. 1 only and divas are allowed.
• Keep an eye on the temperature gauge in the bottom right corner. It starts with a reading of 385 degrees. Each attack will raise the level some degrees depending on the damage done to the enemy. The ringside will become ablaze at 500 degrees for about 15 seconds. At that point, make an attempt to drag your opponent to the edge of the ring with a grapple hold. It might take more than one try as you only have the 15 seconds before the temperature drops down again.

Iron Man Match

• 1 vs. 1 only but divas are allowed in.
• A countdown timer is used in this match much like in the Championship Scramble match. Set the timer for ten, twenty or thirty minute countdown. In this match, individual pins, count outs, disqualifications and submissions count as one point each. The winner of the match is whoever has the most points when the timer reaches zero.

Ladder Match

• 1 vs. 1, 2 vs. 2, Triple Threat, Fatal 4-way or 6-man.
• Divas allowed except in 6 man mode.
• An item hangs high above the ring. Your mission is to set up a ladder in the middle of the ring, climb to the top and get that treasure. Keep in mind that your opponent will be attempting to knock you off of your perch.

Very tricky and challenging for sure. Once you are at the top of the ladder, press up on the right stick. When you are told on the screen to do so, flick down on the right stick. This will tally you a point. Four points are needed to collect your item but you must be ahead of the other wrestler(s) by at least two points to claim the prize. It can be bedlam on that ladder, especially with multiple wrestlers in the ring at one time. It is a free for all, a very exciting match as combatants try to climb the ladder, while at the same time other wrestlers do their best to take their own turn on the ladder. The flicking up and down motion appears to act like a yanking on the item. Your determination and gaming skills will be tested in this one.

Last Man Standing Match

• 1 vs. 1 only and divas allowed.
• The whole arena is your ring. There are no rules in this one. No disqualifications, no count outs or pins matter. You beat each other senseless until one of you cannot stand back up after a ten count.

Steel Cage Match

• 1 vs. 1, 2 vs. 2, Triple Threat, Fatal 4-way.
• Divas are welcome.
• Combatants are trapped inside a steel cage that completely surrounds the ring. The only way to win is to get out. You can set this mode to accept pins and submissions but leaving it set so that you have to walk out a gate to win is much more appealing. As you beat your opponent down and then attempt to approach the gate, another mini-game within the game will appear on the screen. You have to press a button to fill a meter but if you aren’t fast enough, the other guy or diva can knock you down. In the 2 vs. 2 player mode, both members of the team have to escape through the gate in order to win.

Submission Match

• 1 vs. 1 only and divas are allowed.
• A submission match pretty much resembles a regular match except pins are not a way to win. Disqualifications and count outs are still in play but you can leave the ring to use weapons. The only way to win however is with a submission actually inside the ring

Table Match

• 1 vs. 1, 2 vs. 2, Triple Threat, Fatal 4-way.
• Divas can participate.
• The way to win this baby is to put your opponent through a folding table. This cannot feel good at all. Build your momentum with some wrestling moves and well placed punches. Then drag him or her to a table, or perhaps Irish Whip them toward it, hit your finisher move button and observe the fractured table and opponent in pieces. You win.

TLC Match

• 1 vs. 1, 2 vs. 2, Triple Threat, Fatal 4-way.
• Divas are invited.
• TLC stands for Tables, Ladders and Chairs. Same rules as Ladder Match apply, but you have a few more weapons this time to really do some damage to your foe. Throw one opponent through a table and then knock another in the head with a folding chair as you attempt to climb the ladder to victory.
